IgG means that you have chronic lyme disease and that the infection is not an acute/current/recent infection according to the results.

IgM is considered an acute infection, but it can sometimes go back and forth between IgG and IgM as the infection becomes more active again.

The double starred bands are the ones that are directly related to the borrelia infection, so I copied and pasted them below to simplify the explanation.

You have 5 double starred bands that are showing a positive result and directly related to borrelia infection.

Bands 31 & 41 don't appear together as a positive in the first year after getting infected.

Band 31 is positive with one +
Band 34 is IND (indeterminate) and this is considered a weak positive
Band 41 is a strong positive with two ++'s
Bands 83 - 93 is IND and again a weak positive.
With both 31 & 41 band #'s having plusses beside them, this gave you the positive. If all the bands had IND, I'm pretty sure you would have gotten an IGeneX negative.

You only need 2 of the starred (**) bands with a plus beside it to be positive. The CDC does not recognize only 2 bands as positive. They want to see 5 bands as positives or they say you are negative. We know this is false information, but that's how they get away with saying that so many people don't have borrelia.

**23-25 kDa -
**31 kDa +
**34 kDa IND
**39 kDa -
**41 kDa ++
**83-93 kDa IND

I'm curious what the starred bands in your IgM results show even though they gave you a negative.

I hope this helps!

Hi Nimiq:

Hopefully you'll find a way to have access to a LLMD/ND who can guide your treatment. It seems that only LL people actually read the CDC guidelines, which state unequivocally that Lyme is to be diagnosed based on clinical presentation, and NOT due to blood work. A LLMD will look at your symptoms, and look at the blood work as secondary info. Most all of us have been in your situation, where we hope the blood tests will finally give a name to our problem. I'm sorry it isn't as clear-cut in your case, but a good LLMD will give you some reassurance.

The CDC also states clearly that the blood tests are to be used only for data collection, and not as a diagnostic tool. When they standardized the test sometime in the early 1990s, they made it restrictive so that when it came time to collecting data, there would be 0% chance of false positives. People can argue if they had an ulterior motive in this; for my part, I get mad at doctors, especially ID docs, who insist they diagnose based on CDC criteria, and then basically do the exact opposite. The CDC criteria isn't the problem, it's doctors who deliberately ignore it.
