The Green party will be introducing a lyme bill and help is wanted by a lyme patient involved in this effort. See canlyme home page for details.
Am posting this here because some readers of the forum go directly to the live discussion and miss what is posted on the home page. |

Thanks for posting this, lou2.
I often just skip the home page on my way to the forum, and I would have missed this had you not pointed it out here. |

Thanks Lou2, I go right to Live Discussion and would have missed this too. I guess it would be a good idea to check out CanLyme's home page more often. I def. want to know about the Green Party introducing a Lyme Bill. Gotta love Elizabeth May!
From the Green Party's website:
May will introduce a Private Member’s Bill calling for the development of a national strategy to address the challenges of the timely recognition, diagnosis, and treatment of Lyme disease. The bill also calls for funding for provinces and territories to implement the strategy.
“Lyme disease can be devastating. Too many Canadians are now disabled, deprived of the joy of family and friends, of school or work, due to Lyme disease. The public and the medical community need to be educated as to the increasing incidence and range of this disease,” said May.

If anyone from the Toronto/GTA are thinking about attending in Ottawa can you please let me know?
I'm looking to either share a vehicle or travel with others using public transit (i.e. Greyhound or ViaRail). Flying is too expensive for me...
iamcharolette@yahoo.ca
Am also looking for more specific information as to time-lines for the events on June 20th to help co-ordinate with travel to/from Ottawa. Many thanks! |

Not sure where to look other than the initial posting. Have been in contact with Chris but no details as to time(s) or specific details.
Will be travelling with Waterdown + 1-other from the GTA. |

From David's blog:
http://www.dleggett.com/blog/2012/06/07/mp-elizabeth-may-to-introduce-national-lyme-strategy-bill-on-june-20th/
On Wed. June 20th, 2012 in Ottawa, Elizabeth May is planning to introduce a private member’s bill relating to Lyme disease. Look for a press conference that day and the reading of the bill by Elizabeth to our federally elected MP’s later the same day.
Elizabeth is allowed to introduce one private member’s bill in her four year term. She has chosen to help Canadians with Lyme disease get their right to health care back
If you need further information, check out Elizabeth May’s web site. Also, use my (David Leggett) contact page to ask for assistance, or to find out how to include your picture in the display of Canadians suffering with lyme disease – this display will be part of Elizabeth May’s press conference scheduled to occur before the bill is introduced in parliament on June 20th.
I have also just put in a call to Eliz. May's office and if/when they phone me back, hope to be able to post a time and a place for her press conference.
Hope YOU have sent your photo in for Nicole's collage - info on CL's home page |

Just want to make it clear that this part of the above post in the quote below is what I'VE written, and is NOT from Leggett's blog. Sorry to make it so confusing. I find "bolding", underlining, etc. difficult on a post.

Thanks for the reminder about Nicole's collage and for doing your best to get specific details about the planned press conference.
With Members of Parliament expected to begin their summer break at the end of next week, and all the voting that needs to take place before then, I must admit that I'm a bit concerned about a possible delay to the introduction of Elizabeth May's Lyme disease bill. I'm hoping my concern is completely unwarranted.

I just sent off separate emails to my MP, an MP in another riding where I donated last campaign, and the party's leader. Short and to the point is all that is necessary.
Fire away! |

A Press conference was being planned for around 11:00 am on June 20, to talk about the Bill mentioned above. That was now moved to Thursday, June 21, around 11:30 am. Many Lymies, their caregivers, families or friends are planning to be in Ottawa to lend weight and support to the issue. |

I just noticed this on the CanLyme home page:
| Quote: | | Urgent request: To all Canadian Lyme patients, please send a current photo of yourself to be used in a collage of images of those affected by Lyme disease to form a backdrop as Lyme sufferer Nicole Bottles delivers a speech in Ottawa. Her speech will be given at a press conference Thursday, June 21st, 2012 at 11:30 am, during which Elizabeth May, leader of the Green Party of Canada, will announce a new Lyme Bill to be introduced into Parliament that will force the hand of the federal government to do what they should have been doing 25 years ago. The press conference will take place at Parliament Hill, Ottawa, in the Charles Lynch media room. |
